The majority of them have to rely on the supplemental income to support themselves at college or university. The accelerating proportion of students with term-time jobs rose from 47% to 58% in the recent decades. According to the new research, students spend less time in the classrooms than they used to 10 years ago. Learning and earning have become the norm for a good chunk of students, especially for those who are in financial need. As long as most government loans and bursary programs provide the minimum funds to cover the tuition costs, students have to eat, catch the occasional movies and remain on the fringe of fashion. Proverbially term-time working kills two birds with one stone it pays the bills while allowing students to gain invaluable work experience. It really stands for some reason, because combining work and school offers benefits beyond just earning the keep. However, the overwhelming number of students has to work, because they need money for basic essentials. The figures show that 80% of students cant manage on their students loans, another 20% are bound to work simply because their families cant support them or just because they dont want building up debts. A recent study found that that term-time employment has detrimental consequences for students, both in terms of their social experience and academic performance. Working students miss out on everyday experiences of college or university. They skip lectures and seminars; spend less time in libraries, using their universitys computing facilities, devote less time to studying independently, reading, and preparing their assignments because of their jobs. 42% of students reported that working hurt their grades and limited their class choice. At the same time, 63% reported that they wouldnt be able to afford college if they didnt work. The employed students work an average of 25 hours per week, earning roughly $7.50 per hour, mostly in unskilled jobs unrelated to their courses. Even having a full course load, the majority of students work that much, straining themselves with irregular shifts and insufficient sleep, feeling fatigued and exhausted during the classes. It results in declining of students academic performance and persistence, and raises the likelihood of students being dropped out. But for all that, working students usually cant afford vacations, because holiday time equals extra work time. While evidence shows that a slew of students work at levels that negatively influence the quality of their studying and their academic achievement, they cant afford to cut back their jobs. All in all, rising academic costs and failure of the government to keep pace have forced the majority of students to work a number of hours that negatively impacts their academic performance. However, term-time working is not only about negative influence and making sacrifice. It is also about pleasure and gaining invaluable working experience. Many students agree in opinion that part-time working is beneficial and claim that they are able to handle their work and studying, enjoying the process, and feeling incentive and motivation to study in overloaded time-schedule. How to Get Rid of Puffy Eyes

By Brenda Murphy Its six oclock in the morning and you have to get ready for work. One look in the mirror makes you want to cringe. Your eyes look like youve just gone a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson. Yes, you have puffy eyes. The question is what do you do about it? Here are a few suggestions to help you deal with this early morning horror. 1. Know the causes. Investigate why your eyes are puffy in the first place. There are several reasons why your eye area could be retaining fluid. Allergies are a common cause of puffy eyes. Dust or other irritants could cause flare-ups that swell the eyes. Stress can also cause problems with your eyes. Physical manifestations are common among individuals experiencing high levels of stress in their lives. Crying is a cause of puffy eye syndrome, too. Fluid is also retained when the intake of sodium (salt) is higher than normal. 2. Try caffeine. After your morning tea, save those tea bags. Caffeine is a natural diuretic, meaning that it pulls fluid out of your system. Caffeinated tea bags can be used to help alleviate the puffy eye syndrome. First, cool down the tea bags by placing them in a cup of cold water. Warm tea bags will increase the flow of blood to the area which may increase the swelling, instead of decreasing it. Once the bags are sufficiently cooled, place them over each closed eye. Relax for about five to ten minutes. Remove the tea bags and examine your eyes. The puffiness should diminish. If the result is not to your liking, re-cool the tea bags and apply to your eyes again. 3. Cool as a cucumber. Cucumbers are not just for salads anymore. They make good cold compresses for the eyes. Take a chilled cucumber from the fridge and slice it into thin circles. If the slices are too thick they will not lay properly over the eyes. Let the cool slices rest on your eyes for about five minutes. Re-apply new slices as needed. 4. Drink more water. If puffy eye syndrome is more than an occasional occurrence, maybe your body is trying to tell you something. The body retains water when there is precious little available in your system. Increasing your water intake will give the body ample fluid for cellular function and it will not need to store extra water. Drinking lots of water will keep the incidence of puffy eyes to a minimum. Puffy morning eyes are annoying, but they can be treated. To avoid them in the long run, lower your salt intake, drink plenty of water, and use allergy eye drops if irritants are the cause of eye puffiness. When this famous masterpiece was to be created, Leonardo had a strong direction on the meaning of the event and wanted to capture it on canvas. He spent over seven years to complete this memorable painting. An interesting story goes with the painting itself in which will show how Leonardo saw the Last Supper and wanted to reach the heart of the beholder and not just the eye. He wanted to use all living models because of the importance behind the painting, so he studied hundreds of mens faces looking for innocence and beauty to capture our Christ. This man represented everything he had been looking for. When Da Vinci looked into the mans face, he saw an ugly vicious face, scarred and full of hate. He knew immediately that this was the man who would represent the Saviors betrayer. By special permission of the King, the prisoner was brought to Milan to pose for Da Vinci. For six months, the man sat at each appointed hour silently as the great artist painted every felt detail of betrayal. Finally, as the painting was completed and as the prisoner was to be taken to die, the man broke away from the guards and rushed towards Leonardo. Grasping at Da Vincis side he cried, Look at me. Do you not know who I am? Looking intent with his gifted eyes, Da Vinci said, No, I have never seen you before I came to Rome. Then the prisoner looked towards Heaven and the Almighty God and exclaimed, Oh God, have I fallen so low? Then he turned back towards Da Vinci and requested for him to please look at him again. Tearfully he said, I am.. the same man you painted only seven years ago as the figure of Christ. When thinking about how a man shown in innocence ends up to be shown as the same man of hatred, only goes to communicate to heart what the human flesh is made of. Im certain Da Vinci, even with his masterful eyes, would have never chosen the same man to crucified the Savior as Himself without an inspirational lesson from the Holy Spirit. Early Church viewed The Lords Supper as a Communion of mutual sharing and participation. Paul stressed the memorial aspect of the Supper, even though its purpose was sometimes abused. As in the Church of Corinth, some were unable to acknowledge the true purpose and meaning behind the sacred rite. Members should be repentive of any quarrelsome before participating in the meal. Christians were supposed to share the Supper as proclamation of the gospel in hope and future. As the Passover was a symbol of the old covenant, The Lords Supper showed a covenant of the new. Christians were to remember the sacrifice in which Christ provided for their deliverance. All Christians are not worthy to share in such a memorial, but because of Gods grace we are all commanded to declare ones continuing dependence in Christ. We therefore share in the communion of the Supper as our proclamation in the gospel of Christ who died, was buried, and rose for our salvation. As The Last Supper marked the account for the ordinance, we should look at why Christ chose the bread and the wine as the symbolic elements of this Memorial. Both bread and wine are the best two substances of nature to represent unity. The bread is made of multiplicity of grain while the wine is made of multiplicity of grapes. But from the multiplicity comes one, as with ourselves as believers in Christ, we are one. In addition, no other two substances have to suffer more to become what they are then bread and wine. Wheat must survive the hardness of winter, be ground beneath the Calvery of a mill, and survive the fires of flame before it become bread. Grapes in their survival of the hot dry weather, must retain there juices only to be put through a press to have their lives squeezed from them before becoming wine. Thus they represent the passion as well as the sufferings of our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ. The condition of Salvation as He said, we must die to ourselves in order to live in Him. If we look at the bread apart from the wine, we still will find they were the only proper choice of elements. But if we look at the two elements together as a dual, they both represent healing strength. Bread being the common food for survival and wine as a medicine for healing, shows an even more important reason behind His choice for these two elements. We are healed and survive death through His life at the cross. As far back to the beginning of the covenant seeds of Abrahams blessings, we find the elements of the bread and the wine. In Genesis, chapter 14 verse 19, Melchizedek brought bread and wine to Abram. Abram then offered tithing to the Priest of the Highest God of Heaven, Melchizedek the King of Salem. The High Priest gave Abram an eternal gift, the blessing of the supreme God to be upon him and to deliver him from his enemies. In Hebrews we read Melchizedek had no mother or father nor a birth or death record. This is looked upon as a type of Christ, some even feel Melchizedek was actually Christ appearing to Abram. Scriptures also points to Melchizedek as still alive as Christ is our High Priest. From faith we are delivered from our enemies through Christ, just as Abrams seed blessing. The unity of the Bread and Wine and the blessings of Christ all go together. The Lords Supper was new to the Church, though it grew out of the Passover feast. With the breaking of Bread, Christ commanded for us to share the bread in remembrance of his body. Bread was the basic food for most people during biblical times. Bread also represents the food of the gospel in which most people relate to for the history of Christ, For Christ is the Living Bread. In the Old Testament it symbolized the presence of God (Ex. 25:23-30, Lev. 24:5-9) while used in the tabernacle and Temple. As so in the New Testament it symbolizes Jesus Christ Himself (John 6:35), His body, His kingdom, and the unity of his church. If Bread represents God both in Spirit and in flesh, then it would conclude to be the only element acceptable for this use in truth. For example, if Christ would have picked up a vegetable or a piece of meat from the table and commanded us to take it in His remembrance, then how could we know this dinner had any real meaning, other then to feed the disciples and share at that Passover. The ordinance would not make sense as a new covenant. The symbolism of the bread as to God had always been there since the Passover. As we take the bread representing Christ body we share in the promise of Gods Provision. Those who trust in Gods provision in Christ remain physically in the flesh but do not live according to the flesh. Instead they are characterized not in the flesh but by the Spirit. Next, we look at the wine and why it was the choice chosen for the blood. Blood representing life, shows an even deeper importance. When Jesus inaugurated the New Covenant with his disciples, he declared: This is my blood of the new testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins (Mat 26:28). Each year during the old Testament days, an offering was made by Priests and the High Priest for individual Israelites during the Passover celebration. This offering consisted of a lamb with no blemishes and it was in the blood of the offering their sins were forgiven. As they ate the sacrificed meat in joy, it reminded them of Israels sins and the confirmation of reconciliation with God. Relating the Blood pre-announced by Jesus for what His Blood would do for the world as He lifted His cup, was a parallel to replace the old with the new. The symbolism here is significant because Christ now becomes the Passover lamb. At Calvary, He represented the Lamb and He and His blood became the offering for the remission of sins. As the cup of wine represented the blood, it in turn shared in its unique choice of element. It has been argued whether or not the Last supper was the Jewish Passover meal based on the variant chronologies of the Gospels. Paul teaches in the book of 1 Corthenians, chapter 11, verse 23 thur 26 as a re-count of the last meal before the crucification. He also shares the commandments of Christ pertaining to the meal. Based on the distinctive elements of the Christian rite as defined by the words and actions of Christ, this feast could only be the Passover meal. From the old covenant to new covenant, birth of the ordinance arrived. During the first few centuries of its birth, many churches, especially those in Greece, found the bread and wine to literally become the flesh and blood of Christ. The Roman church admired the Hellanist view and adopted its view as its own. By the 4th and 5th century, the Sacrament began to take on a more elaborate ceremonial rite. Music, artistry, and prayer became a part of the meal known today as the Roman Mass. The early church also found itself under much persecution by outsiders of the church. This ordinance became thought of as cultic. The church was looked upon as actually eating flesh and drinking blood. At one point they were even thought of as grave robbers in order to enact their carnivorous rite. This was brought on much by the direction of the Lutheran Church for its interpretation of the bread and wine. The Body and the Blood of Christ are truly present, and are distributed to those who eat in the Lord supper. In the Lutheran view, as the bread and wine enter into ones mouth, it is thought to actually change into Christ blood and flesh. Today, both Catholics and Lutherans still believe the wine and blood represent the presence of Christ as actual flesh and blood, but they have been able to explain the symbolism of the rite to the world. Wanting to avoid stumbling blocks and based from the doctrine on drunkenness, some religions such as the Mormons even use water. Only Believers should take part in the Lords supper as it is offered, and truly only those who have repented should share in the meal. This is very much as it was in the Jewish Passover feast in which only circumcised were allowed to attend and eat the lamb. Today our hearts should be circumcised as we participate in the meal with a prayerful mine. As Christians today, we should partake in the Memorial Aspect of the Ordinance as Paul stressed through his many writings. We should go forth in remembrance of what Christ did for us in His Life and Death and Resurrection with honest, loving, open hearts. The age gap is not so great as to be obscene but whilst we are used to seeing an older man with a younger woman, we're not so comfortable with it the other way round. In fact, the older woman is not sure whether to be embarrassed or victorious when breaking the news to her girlfriends. So are there any disadvantages to a match such as this? Should she be concerned that he will leave her for a younger woman when she is in her forties or fifties? Or should her greatest concern be that they are at different stages in their lives? Are their priorities too different? He is still building his career and she is on top of hers. She only has a short period of time left to have a baby but is he too young to be starting a family? These are some of the reasons our men gave; younger women have pert, firmer bodies, they are less likely to have baggage in the shape of kids and ex-husbands, they are more easily impressed (interesting, will investigate further), they are more fun and carefree, they keep you feeling young, the relationship is more light-hearted and you are not seen as a prospective marriage candidate. By the way guys, this is not true; every man is assessed for his suitability, it is just that when you are twenty and deem a man unsuitable as a husband and father, you might have other more pressing uses for him! Most of these reasons imply that men are just reluctant to grow up; it is something some of them put off almost indefinitely. And what does a young woman get out of a more mature man? Someone who can think of something more than beer and football? (Never going to happen). Security? Money? Power? We know that it is practically the law for every rich bloke to have a sports car in his driveway and a very young, cosmetically-enhanced girl by his side, Well, she might not be that young, it is sometimes hard to tell after surgery. Is it true that there is no such thing as an ugly rich man? Another friend had a relationship with a man 10 years older. The age gap didn't seem to make that much difference at the start. Although she admits that the first time he took his clothes off, she expected to be faced with a wrinkly, dried up old man. He wasn't, of course, he was only in his thirties! They had no similar points of reference. They had grown up in different decades. He was already very set in his ways and prone to falling asleep on the sofa after dinner - just like her Dad- and the longer they spent together, the wider the age gap seemed to get. Doomed? Not necessarily. So back to older ladies and younger men. Marriage statistics now tell us that in the UK, the trend seems to be turning in favour of the older woman and the younger man. Is our friend enjoying some of the most energetic, if not most polished, sex of her life? And what does he get out of it? Someone to look after him, to mother him? The String Algae Blues

By Brett Fogle Now that Spring is upon us and things are coming back to life in your pond with the warmer weather, many of us are battling with string algae. String algae is caused primarily by a combination of the buildup of organic nutrients in the water, and sunlight. What happens is that during winter, when things slow down and many of us turn off our filters, decaying leaves and other organic matter (including fish waste) begin to break down in the pond. The result is an excess of organic nutrients in the water, which is essentially food for algae growth. Add sunlight and some warmer weather to these conditions, and you have an ideal environment for algae growth, both the green water and string algae varieties. The green water, or 'pea soup' algae is easily eradicated with a properly sized UV sterilizer, which we highly recommend. String algae, on the other hand, is a bit more complicated and difficult to get rid of. Because it is usually attached to the walls and rocks of the pond, it becomes more difficult to get rid of and unfortunately, there aren't and easy solutions. But we are going to outline a few remedies here that will help. First, we recommend a pond cleaning - if possible. For those of you who don't clean your pond at least once annually, there are many good reasons to do this. By cleaning out your pond, and removing as much of the decaying organic material from the bottom, you are also removing much of the 'food' for the algae. Another good thing to do is to cut back on feeding your fish, until you get your string algae under control. The fish food, both eaten and digested, and the uneaten food, will both also contribute to this algae growth - so don't worry about the fish, just stop feeding for awhile. There are several products available which can and will 'help' with the string algae problem, like barley bales and/or barley pellets. The idea is that by adding these to the pond, they will also start to decay in the water, and the resulting natural 'humic acids' will actually oxidize the algae, and help keep it under control. Farmers in the 13th century noticed that lakes with bales of barley straw in them, had much less muck and string algae in them. So, now we use them in fish ponds. Barley pellets are a newer version of the same idea, but will generally start working faster. Barley straw needs several weeks before it starts working, and only after it starts to 'rot' in the water. Another way to help with string algae is to raise your salt level in the pond. Anything over .3% will help control the algae, but is best for KOI ponds, as the salt may also negatively affect water garden plants. We also really like the Microbe Lift line of products. They also seem to help control string algae, by adding millions of beneficial microbes and beneficial bacteria that will feed off of this algae and also help to decompose any other organic waste in the pond. An alternate method that many pond owner prefer is to add a chemical algaecide like PondCare's Algae Fix. This is safe for fish and plants, and does seem to temporarily knock out suspended and filamenous algae, but does need to be added periodically for long term control. One new method that we've been hearing more and more about is adding a certain type of clay to the pond water. Calcium Montmorillonite Clay is gaining popularity among KOI pond owners and water gardeners as an effective, natural method of algae control.
